Chelsea face DOUBLE transfer competition with rivals 'stepping up' chase for €70m target

Chelsea could miss out on two of their summer transfer targets to a Premier League rival after reports that Newcastle are stepping up their own pursuit of big money signings.
Enzo Maresca’s side have already been active in the transfer market with the signings of Liam Delap and Mamadou Sarr but they are considering adding another forward as well among other positions.
Talks have been held in recent weeks with Eintracht Frankfurt over the signing of €100 million-rated Hugo Ekitike, while a move for Jamie Gittens is expected to be revived after the Club World Cup, with the Dortmund winger having already agreed personal terms to move to Stamford Bridge.
However, Chelsea have always kept a wide range of targets and pursued multiple deals at once, meaning their long-standing interest in Joao Pedro has come alive again this summer with Brighton willing to cash in on their young forward.
Pedro was dropped for Brighton’s final two games of the season after a bust up with teammate Jan Paul van Hecke and the Brazilian has been made available for transfer for the right price.
But The Telegraph report that Newcastle are now open to negotiate around Brighton’s €70 million valuation for the 23-year-old, who has indicated he would be interested in a move, thus moving the Magpies ahead of Chelsea in the race for Pedro.
Chelsea to face battle in potential race for young talent
The same report also details Newcastle’s interest in Sporting Lisbon’s Ousmane Diomande, a player who has also been scouted by Chelsea and Crystal Palace.

Sporting are expected to field strong interest in the 21-year-old this summer and Newcastle are also likely to be ‘at the table’ if Chelsea or Palace do pursue a deal.
Chelsea are open to the idea of adding another centre-back to their squad but much could depend on the future of players such as Trevoh Chalobah and Axel Disasi, both of whom will likely need to leave the club before any additional defender will be signed.
Pedro, meanwhile, is one of many targets for Chelsea and their interest is only likely to accelerate if moves for Gittens or Ekitike do not pan out, giving Newcastle a clear run at the Brighton star.
