Arsenal BARGE into Marc Guehi race as 'affordable' deal eyed

Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi features prominently on Arsenal's shortlist of centre-back targets, according to a report.
The Gunners are in the midst of a massive summer transfer window as Mikel Arteta seeks to transform Arsenal from serial runners-up into a side capable of winning championships.
Arsenal are currently in talks with RB Leipzig over striker Benjamin Sesko, while sporting director Andrea Berta is also exploring deals for several potential winger targets such as Nico Williams, Rodrygo and Anthony Gordon.
The Gunners are also planning to bring in some defensive reinforcements. Left-back Kieran Tierney has returned to Celtic on a free transfer, while Oleksandr Zinchenko is also expected to depart the club. This means that a new left-sided defender could be brought in.
Centre-back is another position Arsenal could seek to bolster. They are understood to be targeting younger profiles and wanted to bring in Dean Huijsen before he moved to Real Madrid. However, should an opportunity arise, they wouldn't turn their nose up at bringing in an established player.
Arsenal eye Guehi deal
Indeed, according to The Athletic, the name of Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi holds a prominent place on Arsenal's centre-back shortlist. At present, however, Arsenal have not yet fully decided whether or not to spend big on a central defender.
There are also concerns over whether Guehi would be open to making a move to Arsenal, considering the competition he would come up against. FootballTransfers exclusively revealed on May 19 that both Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba will sign new contracts with the Gunners.

The new deal for Gabriel has already been announced by the club, while Saliba's fresh terms are set to be finalised in the near future. This means that Guehi would face the tall task of disrupting arguably the best centre-back pairing in the Premier League.
Arsenal, for their part, believe that Guehi could be a relatively affordable option as he only has a year left to run on his Crystal Palace contract. He has so far shown no signs of wanting to extend his stay at Selhurst Park.
Newcastle and Chelsea have also been heavily linked with Guehi in recent weeks, and a move to either St. James' Park or Stamford Bridge appears more realistic than one to the Emirates as things stand.
