Thomas Partey will leave Arsenal as a free agent this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Ghana international's current contract with the Gunners expires on 30 June, and Arsenal's hopes of an extension have been fading fast in recent days, as Partey has shown no signs of wanting to accept their offer.

Arsenal, for their part, have been unwilling to improve their original proposal, leading to a stalemate which has now been ongoing for months. FootballTransfers exclusively reported in mid-April that Partey was stalling on signing a new deal.

Last week, it emerged that Partey was now '90 per cent' likely to leave Arsenal due to the lack of progress in the talks, and Arsenal appeared to confirm this reporting earlier on Wednesday when it was revealed that they had initiated contact with Brentford captain Christian Norgaard.

The Dane is keen on the move, and a bid has already been presented to the Bees, although they are reportedly holding out for more than €11 million.

Romano confirms Partey exit

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that Partey will leave North London when his contract expires at the end of the month, bringing the curtain down on a five-year spell at the Emirates.

Arsenal had been keen to keep the 32-year-old as he managed to remain relatively injury-free for the first time in a long time last season and thus managed to win back his place as a regular starter.

Partey was a key player for Mikel Arteta in the season just gone, so his exit will be a blow to the Spaniard. It remains to be seen if they can secure the signing of Norgaard, who will replace the experience of Partey.

As FootballTransfers exclusively revealed back in December, Sevilla midfielder Lucien Agoume is also an option that is well-liked by Arteta.
