The 2024-25 Premier League season is officially over, with Liverpool claiming their 20th English top flight title and all three promoted teams suffering an immediate relegation back down to the Championship.

There were a plethora of standout performers throughout the campaign as the Premier League once again proved its worth as an extremely competitive division from top to bottom.

Below, FootballTransfers runs through our Premier League Team of the Season for 2024-25.

GK: Matz Sels (Nottingham Forest)

After a dreadful start to the 2023-24 campaign, Nottingham Forest signed Strasbourg goalkeeper Matz Sels for just €8 million in a bid to preserve their place in the Premier League.

The Belgian achieved that feat last season and he took a giant leap forward this campaign.

Sels was the best goalkeeper in the Premier League this term, keeping 13 clean sheets and helping Forest achieve European football for the first time since 1996.

RB: Daniel Munoz (Crystal Palace)

There were a number of standout right-backs this year, but Daniel Munoz gets the nod thanks to his form for Crystal Palace.

The Colombia international was a truly exceptional outlet down the right flank, notching four goals and five assists in the Premier League from his wing-back berth.

Munoz is arguably the most important player for Oliver Glasner’s system and although Palace were unable to secure European football through their league position, they will feature in next season’s Europa League after winning the FA Cup final versus Manchester City.

CB: Nikola Milenkovic (Nottingham Forest)

Nottingham Forest paid a measly €12.3m to sign Nikola Milenkovic from Fiorentina last summer, and his arrival transformed their fortunes this season.

He played a truly pivotal role alongside Murillo for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, chipping in with five goals and helping Forest maintain one of the best defensive records in the English top flight.

Milenkovic has been a rock at the back for Forest, and Murillo is arguably unfortunate to miss out on this XI after a sensational campaign next to the Serbia international.

CB: Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)

Despite intense speculation over his Liverpool future, Virgil van Dijk was his typically composed self this campaign, guiding the Reds to their second Premier League title in the process.

The Dutchman has once again enhanced his reputation as one of the world’s best defenders, despite a few uncharacteristic errors, and he was a shoe-in for this team.

Liverpool have excelled from a defensive standpoint this season and Van Dijk narrowly edged out the Arsenal duo of Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba for an inclusion.

LB: Antonee Robinson (Fulham)

Antonee Robinson has been a reliable Premier League performer for several years, however he certainly stepped things up this campaign.

The United States of America full-back was a constant source of attacking impetus down Fulham’s left flank and he is a key reason why they have enjoyed a wholly positive season under Marco Silva.

His tally of 10 assists is the joint-most from a Premier League defender since Trent Alexander-Arnold provided 12 in the 2021-22 campaign, which is a major reason why he’s been selected ahead of Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez.

CM: Ryan Gravenberch (Liverpool)

Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister both deserve to be selected in this team, although the former has narrowly won the battle thanks to his immense form in a new defensive midfield position.

The Dutchman played a peripheral role last season, following his arrival from Bayern Munich, but he has emerged as an indispensable figure under Arne Slot after Liverpool’s failure to sign Martin Zubimendi.

Gravenberch slotted in perfectly in the number six position and he sheltered Liverpool’s backline excellently, while frequently providing incisive forward passes.

CM: Moises Caicedo (Chelsea)

The era of Moises Caicedo being mocked for costing €116m is well and truly over. He may be a surprise inclusion in this team, but his selection is more than justified.

He was Chelsea’s best player by a country mile this term and his transfer fee now looks like a bargain, rather than an extortionate overpay.

Caicedo completed the fifth-highest number of tackles of any Premier League player, despite the fact Chelsea often dominate possession, and he is a huge reason why they secured Champions League football.

CM: Bruno Guimaraes (Newcastle)

Bruno Guimaraes captained Newcastle United to the Champions League for the second time in three years, and he has been included in this XI ahead of team-mate Sandro Tonali thanks to his form throughout the entire season.

The Brazil international has been a key figure behind Newcastle’s immense rise under Eddie Howe, with his passion, leadership and technical quality helping the Magpies establish themselves as one of the best teams in England.

He notched five goals and six assists in the Premier League this term, while he was also the most-fouled player in the entire division by a significant margin.

RW: Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)

Mohamed Salah has suffered a fairly substantial dip in form since the start of April, but he is still the frontrunner to win the PFA Player of the Year award after a sublime season for Liverpool.

The Reds legend scored 29 goals and provided 18 assists in the Premier League to fire Liverpool to just their second English top flight title since 1990.

He was unstoppable for the majority of this season and he was the easiest selection in this entire team. Furthermore, he has signed a new two-year deal at Liverpool, meaning Anfield will continue to be blessed by his presence.

ST: Alexander Isak (Newcastle)

Alexander Isak enjoyed his best ever season in a Newcastle shirt as he notched 23 Premier League goals - the second-highest tally in the division - to guide them to Champions League qualification.

The Sweden star also registered six assists, and proved why he is rated as one of the very best strikers in the entirety of world football.

Isak was in sublime form throughout the 2024-25 campaign and his inclusion ahead of Chris Wood and Yoane Wissa is fully justified.

LW: Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford)

Bryan Mbeumo has almost exclusively played on the right flank since moving to Brentford, however he’s been shifted onto the left in order to be squeezed into this team.

There were concerns over how Thomas Frank’s side would fare without Ivan Toney, but Mbeumo and Wissa stepped up big time, scoring 39 Premier League goals between them.

Mbeumo bagged 20 of those and he cemented his reputation as one of the division’s most dangerous wingers in the process.
