Man Utd open to Osimhen swap deal

Manchester United are willing to make a swap deal with Napoli that would see Osimhen move to Old Trafford, a report from Il Mattino (via Calcio Napoli 24) claims.

The Naples newspaper reported on Wednesday: “When it comes to Napoli-level strikers, almost everything depends on Osimhen’s future.

“The masked striker is playing on loan at Galatasaray in Turkey and will only formally return to the shadow of Vesuvius in June. His destiny is elsewhere, there’s no doubt about that. The only think left to decide is his destination.

“Victory has always looked with interest at the Premier League. Manchester United are on his trail and are offering Rasmus Hojlund as a partial bargaining chip.”

Aston Villa do not have Rashford buy option

Aston Villa do not have first refusal on signing Marcus Rashford this summer and the unwanted Manchester United star, who will have a £40m price tag on him.

Villa were thought to have an option to sign Rashford permanently after his loan but The Times report that other clubs will also have the chance to pay the same £40m if they wish.

A sticking point for Rashford, however, remains his wages, in excess of £300,000 per week, with the player unwilling to take a paycut as it stands.

United could therefore subsidise any wages in order to push him towards a permanent exit this summer, as they have done for his time at Villa.

Man Utd miss out on windfall from Real Madrid transfer

Real Madrid are keen on signing former Man Utd youngster Alvaro Carreras, who has a €50 million release clause in his contract at Benfica.

Carreras’ move to Real could be considered a blow for Man Utd, who have a buy-back clause on the 22-year-old worth a reported €18m.

While United are not looking to sign Carreras for their squad after bringing in Patrick Dorgu in January, there was speculation that the Premier League side would activate their buy-back clause and then sell the Spaniard to Real for €35m to net them a quick profit.

However, such a move would seemingly violate FIFA rulings if it happened in the same transfer window, leaving United to watch in frustration as they miss out on a windfall from a player whom they sold for just €6m last summer.

Garcia came close to Man Utd job

Current Belgium manager Rudi Garcia has revealed he was in talks to manage Manchester United in 2021 and admits he feels he could have done a good job managing Cristiano Ronaldo.

Garcia managed Ronaldo at Al-Nassr and the French coach told how he had ‘gone quite far’ in discussions to take over at United after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking in 2021.

“With Manchester United, in particular, we went quite far in discussions,” Garcia said. “We had three meetings. I was in the final with Ralf Rangnick in the fall of 2021 and the board chose the latter.

“It's a shame because it would have given me the opportunity to work with Cristiano Ronaldo.

“He was back at MU and things weren't going very well. I'm going to lack humility, but we would have done a very good job together. I'm sure of it.”
