Bruno Fernandes: Al-Hilal prepare British record offer for Man Utd captain

Saudi giants Al-Hilal could offer Manchester United a British-record fee for Bruno Fernandes after identifying him as a top target.
Earlier on Tuesday, news broke that the Riyadh outfit had started exploring a summer move for the Man Utd captain. Al-Hilal are long-standing admirers of Fernandes and already courted him last year.
So far, the Saudi Pro League side have yet to produce an actual transfer offer for Fernandes, but journalist Ben Jacobs reports that Al-Hilal are gearing up for a potentially record-breaking window.
Initially, Al-Hilal had hoped to secure the signing of Mohamed Salah. However, the Egyptian has extended his Liverpool contract, which means that the Saudi side now have around €600 million to spend in the upcoming window as they retained the centrally-allocated budget for Salah.
It has been a disappointing season so far for Al-Hilal, so they are determined to make a splash this summer in a bid to reestablish themselves as the dominant force in Saudi Arabian and Asian football.
Al-Hilal to shatter record for Fernandes?
It remains to be seen just how much Al-Hilal are willing to bid for Fernandes because there appears to be conflicting information regarding his potential price tag.
Jacobs states that some Saudi sources believe that there is a €70 million clause in Fernandes' contract, but this is being played down by those close to Man Utd. Whatever the case, the Saudis are convinced that there is a threshold where Man Utd will cave and engage.

This threshold could, however, be north of the British-record €134 million that Chelsea paid for Moises Caicedo in 2023. Man Utd are therefore faced with a huge dilemma.
Fernandes is easily their best player, and everyone at the club is unanimous in their conviction to keep him. However, such a hefty sum of money could be transformative for the cash-strapped Red Devils, who need all the funds they can get for their summer rebuild.
Fernandes is 30 years old, so this could be Man Utd's final chance to cash in on the Portugal international. The midfielder, Jacobs states, has received a 'non-binding' €76m-per-season contract offer to which he has yet to respond.
