Enzo Fernandez to Real Madrid: Chelsea's transfer plan CONFIRMED by Maresca

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Enzo Fernandez will remain at the club this summer, despite increasing speculation of a move to Real Madrid.
The Argentina international moved to Stamford Bridge for a Premier League record transfer fee of €121 million in January 2023, following a stellar 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and he has enjoyed an eye-catching campaign under Maresca.
Fernandez has scored seven goals and provided 13 assists in 44 appearances across all competitions this term, and he has frequently worn the captain’s armband in Reece James’ absence.
His current deal at Chelsea isn’t due to expire until 2032, but Real Madrid have reportedly rekindled their interest in his signature after confirmation of Luka Modric’s imminent exit.
The Croatia legend will depart Los Blancos following the conclusion of the 2024-25 campaign, and Fernandez has been earmarked as the club’s dream replacement after they failed to sign him back in 2023.
Reports in Spain suggest that Fernandez “loves” Madrid and would be eager to test himself at the Santiago Bernabeu next season, however Chelsea are determined to retain the Argentina midfielder and have no intention of allowing him to depart this summer.
Maresca has now reaffirmed Chelsea’s desire to keep Fernandez for the foreseeable future.

What has Enzo Maresca said about Enzo Fernandez?
Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s final Premier League match of the season versus Nottingham Forest, a game the Blues must win to secure Champions League qualification, Maresca was asked about recent rumours linking Fernandez with a sensational move to Real Madrid.
“Enzo is a main player for us. He is one of the leaders,” the Chelsea boss told reporters in response.
“He’s been very, very good. He can be even better next season. Nothing to say about speculation. He is focused on us. Yes [he is staying].”
