Chelsea eye Gila after Huijsen disappointment

Chelsea have turned their attention to a new defensive target after resigning themselves to missing out on Dean Huijsen, with the Bournemouth youngster set to join Real Madrid in the coming days.

Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal were among the clubs hoping to sign Huijsen but the 20-year-old had been holding out for a move to Real Madrid, who have now formalised their approach for the Spain international.

With Huijsen’s future all but resolved, TEAMtalk report that Chelsea have now ‘set their sights’ on Mario Gila, who could leave Lazio this summer for a fee in excess of €30m.

Chelsea are said to see the 24-year-old as a ‘cost-effective solution’ to their search for a centre-back, although they will likely face competition from Inter, who have pursued Gila for more than a year.

Rodrygo wanted by Premier League sides

Chelsea could take a ‘market opportunity’ and make a move for Real Madrid winger Rodrygo, who is likely to push for a transfer this summer.

The Brazilian winger has grown frustrated at Real Madrid and transfer reporter Ben Jacobs believes that Premier League sides, including Chelsea, could take advantage of any uncertainty.

“Rodrygo is a new name I’m hearing, there’s nothing advanced between Chelsea and Rodrygo, but what I can tell you is that Madrid are willing to let Rodrygo go,” Jacobs said.

“He’s been forced to play at Real on the right side because of [Kylian] Mbappe and Vini Jr, but his best position, and where he really likes to play, is on the left side.

“Chelsea are aware of that market opportunity, without really moving on it at this point, the same can be said for Arsenal and Liverpool as well. So keep an eye on Premier League clubs and Rodrygo.”

Maresca job safe

Chelsea will not sack Enzo Maresca this summer, even if they miss out on Champions League football, according to a report.

Although the Blues are in the final of the Conference League, there has been some sack talk surrounding Maresca as Chelsea have gone from challenging for the top spot in the Premier League in the early stages of the season to potentially missing out on Champions League football.

However, according to Ben Jacobs, Chelsea will not sack Maresca regardless of the outcome of their battle for Champions League football. Due to the Club World Cup, which the Blues hierarchy is determined to win, they will try to avoid unnecessary upheaval this summer.

Jacobs reports that Chelsea always planned to hold their first post-season performance review in 2026 rather than 2025 as Maresca signed a long-term contract with the club, unlike predecessor Mauricio Pochettino, whose work was scrutinised after just one season.

The Chelsea brass continue to back the Italian and are not planning to discuss his future this summer, even if Chelsea miss out on the Champions League. Club bosses sympathise with Maresca and believe that his side's dip in form has been due to injuries.

Dortmund ‘will make no effort’ to sign Chukwuemeka

Chelsea will likely continue to search for a new club for Carney Chukwuemeka this summer with Dortmund said to be ‘making no effort’ to sign the loanee permanently.

Chukwuemeka joined the German side in January but he has made just one Bundesliga start, in part due to injury, with Dortmund deeming it too small of a sample size to make a permanent move, according to local newspaper Ruhr Nachrichten.

Chelsea had been hoping to net a fee of around €30m for the 21-year-old but it seems a foregone conclusion that he will return to Stamford Bridge this summer, although he is not believed to have a future at the club.
