Man City choose 'Plan B' to Elliot Anderson as Romano confirms possible January transfer
Manchester City have identified Atalanta star Ederson as their Plan B signing for central midfield.
Pep Guardiola has made the signing of a top midfielder in the middle of the park a priority in 2026.
Sky Sports Switzerland reports that Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson is Guardiola's number one choice.
However, the 22-year-old is wanted by many top Premier League clubs and will cost over €100 million.
Sky reports that Atalanta star Ederson is Guardiola's Plan B if Anderson is not signed.
Ederson is Plan B
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Ederson will very likely leave Atalanta in 2026 and could even be one to watch as early as January.
His contract expires in 18 months and there are no renewal talks ongoing.
Romano says that for an offer of between €30-40m, Atalanta could decide to sell.
Ederson is regarded as possibly the most consistent central midfielder in Serie A over the last two years, with Fabio Capello considering him world class.
He really sold himself to a worldwide audience with his brilliant performance in Atalanta's Europa League final win over Bayer Leverkusen last year.
Ederson functions mostly as a box to box midfielder, but he can play as a defensive midfielder and as a more attacking central midfielder.
Importantly, he boasts intensity, fierce tackling and pressing, and superb stamina that sees him cover lots of ground and never stop running.
The Brazilian played a key role in Atalanta winning the Europa League in 2023/24 and he produced a world class performance in the 3-0 thrashing of Bayer Leverkusen in the final.
Ederson joined Atalanta from Salernitana in 2022 and has gone on to make over 150 appearances, scoring 14 goals.
