Toney has 'last chance to impress Arteta' as Arsenal host Brentford

Arsenal's interest in Ivan Toney is cooling, but he could yet change their mind with a good performance at the Emirates, according to a report.

The Brentford striker is expected to depart his club in the summer, but his destination remains as yet unknown. Toney has been quite open about his desire to play for a 'top club' and Bees boss Thomas Frank has confirmed that he will most likely be sold as he is out of contract in 2025.

The likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd have all been linked with the prolific striker, but his age has given clubs second thoughts. Fabrizio Romano has already confirmed that Chelsea's interest in the 27-year-old is cooling, and it seems that Arsenal are now having doubts too.

At least that is according to The Mirror, which reports that Brentford's visit to the Emirates will be an audition of sorts for Toney, who will have one final chance to impress Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta and sporting director Edu.

Arsenal growing cold on Toney

Though the Gunners have long since been considered the favourites to sign Toney, with the player reportedly very keen on heading to north London, Arsenal are now unconvinced whether he is the kind of player they really need.

Given his age and the fact that he has never played for an elite side, the report asserts that the Gunners feel as though there are better options out there, with Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres mentioned as potential alternatives. Moreover, Arteta's men have been merciless in front of goal lately, which has eased the need for a prolific number nine.

Yet, with a good performance against Arsenal, Toney could still change Arteta's mind, it is claimed. The striker is naturally keen to impress and show that he has what it takes to perform at the highest level. The 27-year-old could still have a big say in the title race.
