Harry Kane did not join Manchester United over the summer as the club could not afford him.

A report from the Mirror states that the forward was Erik ten Hag’s top target for the summer window, but that he was not given enough funds to get the deal done, with Dutchman bringing in Rasmus Hojlund instead.

Kane was ready to move on from Tottenham in a bid to win major trophies and so joined Bayern Munich in a club-record deal.

Man Utd were put off by the asking price of £100million plus a further £400,000-a-week in wages, as FootballTransfers was first to reveal last summer.

But while joining Bayern was seen as a great way to win immediate titles, the club have had a poor run of form under Thomas Tuchel.

The club find themselves five points behind Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, with the German boss under pressure.

Earlier this week, Tuchel admitted that Kane is not happy with how things are going with the German giant after criticism was aimed at the England captain for his below-par performance in Europe.

What did Thomas Tuchel say about Harry Kane?

Tuchel said: "Harry takes care of himself. He doesn't need me. He's not happy with the connection in games. Neither are we. I've rarely seen such a discrepancy between training and matches.

"The way he scores in training, the way he puts his chances away - it's incredible. It's world-class. But then we rarely find him in matches. He acts like a captain. Everything's okay with him."

It’s thought that Man Utd will try and get another striker in the summer window to help support Hojlund, who is only just finding his feet in the Premier League this campaign.
