New club enters race for USMNT star Reyna as American connection key
Fiorentina have joined the race to sign Gio Reyna, according to Italian media.
The Borussia Dortmund attacker has still not found a new club and time is running out. Wednesday is Deadline Day for clubs in Spain, Italy and France, while German and English clubs won't be able to do business after Thursday.
A quick solution for the United States men's national team star must be found and, while he has no shortage of suitors, it will be a race against time to grant the 21-year-old his exit wish. Reyna is sick of his limited minutes in Germany and is keen to get out of Dortmund before the window shuts.
The Black and Yellow, for their part, are happy to allow the American to leave, but they want to make a quick buck from his exit. Few clubs, however, are willing to spend big in January on a player who has struggled for fitness and form. A transfer battle of sorts has developed and now another side have entered the mix.
Fiorentina also interested
According to Di Marzio, Fiorentina have registered their interest in signing the attacking midfielder. The Viola, however, are seemingly only interested in a loan deal for now. Nevertheless, they do have an ace up their sleeve.
The Florence-based side are owned by American Rocco Commisso and this US connection could prove decisive. Reyna is represented by superagent Jorge Mendes but his famous father Claudio will also have a major say in the youngster's future, so the American link may be key.
Fiorentina are the latest side to be credited with an interest in Reyna. Last week, the USMNT attacker reportedly agreed personal terms with Nottingham Forest and Marseille, while on Monday, it was revealed that Sevilla are keen on securing his signature. FootballTransfers exclusively revealed earlier this month that Aston Villa have also enquired about Reyna.
