USMNT star Gio Reyna to leave Dortmund as TWO agreements reached
United States men's national team star Gio Reyna has reached agreements with both Nottingham Forest and Marseille, according to a report, but his club Borussia Dortmund have not yet sanctioned a departure.
Reyna, 21, is said to be desperate to move away from Dortmund during the January transfer window. He has started only one Bundesliga match thus far this campaign and has fallen even further down the pecking order following the arrival on loan of Jadon Sancho from Manchester United.
Accordingly, it was reported earlier this week by David Ornstein of The Athletic that Forest were in talks with Dortmund over a move for the USMNT youngster.
Talks were opened over a six-month loan deal, with a clause to sign Reyna permanently at the end of the season.
Marseille enter the race
Gianluca Di Marzio is now reporting that Marseille have also reached an agreement with the player over a move to the Stade Velodrome.
Nonetheless, Sky Sports Germany journalist, Florian Plettenberg, has revealed that Dortmund have not yet agreed to let Reyna leave, although the attacker has agreed terms over a deal with both Forest and OM.
Reyna is out of contract with Dortmund in 2025 but Plettenberg states that the Black and Yellow will still look to cash in on a “top financial package."
A permanent move for the Sunderland-born schemer could cost as much as €15 million with father, Claudio, and agent, Jorge Mendes, still said to be pondering the best outcome for Giovanni.
Reyna has scored seven goals in 24 United States matches and has been regarded as one of the best young attacking players of his generation.
However, a combination of injury and form issues have seen him fall out of the limelight over the past year.
A move this winter and regular football could be just what the player needs to get back on track.
