Chelsea have made a big call over the future of striker Armando Broja, according to Fabrizio Romano, with the Blues decision hinting at what their plans for Deadline Day are.

The 22-year-old has returned to action this season after a serious knee injury but has struggled to make an impression in his appearances with Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.

Broja scored on his first start since his injury, against Fulham, but that is the only goal he has mustered in the Premier League this term, with his only other strike arriving against Preston in the FA Cup.

Chelsea had been tipped to loan Broja out for the second half of the season – or perhaps even sell at the right price – but Romano reports that the Blues are not simply willing to take any offer that lands at their feet.

Indeed, Wolves have been knocked back over a move for the striker and, according to the football transfer news expert, will not make an improved offer in the closing hours of the transfer window.

Romano took to his YouTube channel to report: “Chelsea received an official offer from Wolves for Armando Broja. It was a loan deal, with no obligation to buy. Chelsea decided to say no.”

Late move on the cards?

There may yet be a way out of Stamford Bridge this January for Broja, who faces the renewed challenge of Nicolas Jackson, whose Senegal side was knocked out of the Africa Cup of Nations by Ivory Coast this week, as well as the possibility of big-money summer arrival Christopher Nkunku finally regaining his fitness.

“Let’s see if Fulham will try to sign him in last hours of the window or if some other club will enter the race, but this one is not happening,” Romano said, referring to Wolves.

Broja has only scored eight Premier League goals during his career, with the Albania international having particularly shone during a loan spell with Southampton during the 2021/22 campaign.

Nevertheless, the fact that Chelsea have knocked back a loan offer suggests there are no late moves for a forward in the pipeline.
