PSG seemed to have secured the signing of Gabriel Moscardo, yet the door has been unexpectedly opened for Chelsea to dream of completing a deal for the 18-year-old Corinthians star.

Moscardo failed his medical at PSG due to an injury to his left foot, an issue that has stalled the €20 million deal.

The teenage defensive midfielder has announced that the issue requires surgery, taking to social media to declare: “I would like to announce to you all my decision to carry out a small surgical procedure on my left foot in the coming days. After recent exams, it looks like this preventive operation will keep me away from the field for three months. This will allow me to come back stronger and pursue my dreams and career. I am convinced, 2024 will be a wonderful year.”

With the player out for three months, PSG have been left questioning whether to complete the deal now or risk waiting until the summer.

UOL reports that the Parc des Princes side don’t want to risk a potential hijack from Chelsea for the highly sought-after teenager, who resembles Blues central midfielder Moises Caicedo in style, according to data analytics experts SciSports.

Corinthians expect a definitive response from PSG by the end of the week but L’Equipe says that the club may postponed the decision until the end of the month.

The Brazilian media reports, meanwhile, that a meeting was held in Paris on Wednesday with the talks said to be positive.

PSG, though, are demanding a break clause in the event of Moscardo’s injury throwing up some complications, yet Corinthians are so far denying them this.

Until these issues are ironed out, the possibility of Chelsea completing a move remains possible, although for the moment, at least, the Blues have stepped back in the race.
