Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has told Arsenal to go “all out” and sign Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak, despite their long-standing interest in Ivan Toney.

Mikel Arteta’s side are in the market for a new striker amid Gabriel Jesus’ struggles in front of goal this campaign and have been linked with several targets.

Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres is one, while Toney remains the player with the most prevalent links to the Emirates Stadium.

However, Brentford boss Thomas Frank has repeatedly insisted that Toney will not be leaving the club in January as they look to secure Premier League survival after a tricky festive period.

The Englishman will make his return to action against Nottingham Forest on 20 January after spending the past nine months serving a footballing ban after he pled guilty to over 200 betting breaches.

Despite the fact Toney is set to return to action, Ferdinand has urged the Gunners to sign Isak, a player that FootballTransfers exclusively reported is on Arsenal’s radar.

Arsenal to sign Newcastle’s Alexander Isak?

"Alexander Isak was running in behind constantly [against Manchester City], if I’m Arsenal, I’m going all out and buying him,” Ferdinand said on his FIVE podcast, as per CaughtOffside.

The former Man Utd defender was then asked whether Isak would be too expensive for Arsenal. He replied: “Why? They can’t spend… they’re struggling with [profit and sustainability rules].

“I think there’s another jump up before [he goes to a club like Real Madrid]. I saw somewhere they have to sell before they can buy again.”

Isak has scored 10 goals in 16 Premier League games so far this season and the Sweden international was wanted by the Gunners during his productive time at Real Sociedad.

However, they were beaten to his signature by Newcastle, with Gabriel Jesus arriving from Man City instead.

Isak currently has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €47.5 million, although it would likely cost a far higher figure to sign him.
