There is now less than a month to go until all players whose contracts expire at the end of the season will be able to open negotiations with new clubs.

These players will then be allowed to sign pre-contracts with new clubs and officially join them for free on a Bosman Transfer on July 1.

There is no doubt who the most enticing expiring player is; PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe’s contract at PSG expires in June 2024 and it is widely expected that he will sign for Real Madrid on a free transfer.

However, there have been reports in recent days that it is not impossible he could yet decide to activate his one-year extension option in his PSG contract. Arsenal and Liverpool are also watching on closely.

Talking of Arsenal, their Italo-Brazilian midfielder Jorginho also sees his contract expire at the end of the season.

He only joined the Gunners from Chelsea in January 2023 on an 18-month deal with the option of another year.

It had seemed likely at first that he would leave Arsenal at the end of the campaign and return to Italy. However, his impressive form for the Gunners over the last month has raised the chances of him prolonging his stay.

Another veteran midfielder to watch out for is Toni Kroos. The Germany star turns 34 in the new year but is still an elite midfielder.

Kroos will likely wait until closer to the end of the season before deciding on whether to extend for another year or move on. There will be plenty of interest in him if he does go.

In Italy, there are two top midfielders who Europe’s biggest clubs are circling around.

The first is Juventus star Adrien Rabiot. The Frenchman had looked likely to leave on a Bosman Transfer for Man Utd this past summer but in the end decided to sign a new one-year contract in Turin, instead.

Rabiot will once again wait until closer to the end of the season before deciding whether to remain at Juve or this time leave. Man Utd, Chelsea and other Premier League clubs are interested.

The second midfielder in Italy whose contract is expiring is Piotr Zielinski. The Poland star looks increasingly likely to leave as renewal talks are making no headway.

Juventus and Inter both would like to sign him in Serie A but Zielinski has long-term admirers from the Premier League also, with Liverpool previously trying to get him.
