Manchester United winger Amad Diallo is the subject of transfer interest from Wolves ahead of the January transfer window, FootballTransfers can exclusively reveal.

Wolves have already contacted the Old Trafford club over the possibility of a loan deal for the 21-year-old, having scouted the player during the reign of Nuno Espirito Santo back in 2021.

Although they missed out on the starlet at that point, with Atalanta accepting Man Utd’s €21 million offer for the player, Wolves have continued to follow Amad and even made an approach for him in 2022 following his loan spell at Rangers.

A deal was never close, however, with negotiations breaking down over the player’s high wages, and instead Amad moved to Sunderland, where he enjoyed a successful spell in the Championship with the Black Cats, netting 14 goals.

Amad has yet to play a competitive game this season due to a knee injury, but is on the path back to full fitness.

Man Utd’s plan for Amad Diallo

At Man Utd, manager Erik ten Hag is likeliest to use Diallo in the U21s before deciding if he is ready to be integrated into the first-team squad after a long period on the sidelines.

According to FootballTransfers’ source, playing with Wolves is seen as a strong alternative for him to get regular first-team football. With a contract at Man Utd that expires in 2025, the youngster is under pressure to prove himself.

The Ivory Coast International, who has Italian citizenship, is someone who can play anywhere across the front three and is therefore seen as a valuable addition to Gary O'Neil’s thin squad, particularly as there are injury concerns over Pedro Neto, who has also been linked with a string of clubs ahead of the January transfer window.

Amad Diallo's transfer value evolution over time

The wage issues that were previously a concern are now not weighing so significantly on Wolves given they have sold more than €150m of talent in recent months, headlined by Matheus Nunes, who left for Manchester City for €62m.

Big earners such as Joao Moutinho and Adama Traore are also off Wolves’ books.

Amad is, therefore, a legitimate target for the club ahead of January.
