EXCLUSIVE: Chelsea eye two breakout attackers in Europe ahead of January transfer window

Chelsea are currently keeping tabs on Santiago Giminez and Assane Diao in anticipation of the upcoming January transfer window, FootballTransfers has been told.

While the club's primary focus is securing a No.9, they are also exploring options to reinforce the right flank. Victor Osimhen is the preferred choice for Chelsea, with the Nigerian striker expressing openness to a potential move in recent weeks. In the event that securing Osimhen becomes challenging, Chelsea will consider other options within the Premier League.

But Giminez, who has been making a significant impact in the Eredivisie, is on Chelsea's shortlist and will be allowed to leave Feyenoord for around €40milllion with further add-ons attached.

The young talent has garnered admiration from several members of Chelsea's recruitment staff, each having different opinions on the ideal striker to acquire next year.

Gimenez has netted 15 goals in as many games in all competitions this season while his contract expires at De Kuip in 2027.

Diao among Chelsea targets

We understand, too, that Chelsea's overarching philosophy of securing promising young talents in Europe on long-term contracts has led them to evaluate Diao.

The versatile winger from Real Betis capable of operating on both sides, has enjoyed a breakthrough season under the management of Manuel Pellegrini at the Benito Villamarin. Chelsea currently has Noni Madueke as their primary right-winger, occasionally deploying Cole Palmer in that position when he's not playing in the centre.

At 18 years old, Diao is viewed as a prospect for the future at Stamford Bridge, although other clubs have also expressed interest in securing his services, and there is not a huge urgency from Los Verdiblancos to move the teenager on in the January window, amid their fight for a spot in Europe this season.

Pellegrini spoke about Diao’s talent to AS recently: “There are many players who have very good periods and then they end. I see him very focused on what he is doing and we all have to conduct it in the best way so that he continues adding and contributing.”
