Chelsea transfer target Gregor Kobel has signed a new contract at Borussia Dortmund.

The goalkeeper's deal at the Bundesliga club expires in the summer of 2028.

Kobel joined Dortmund from Stuttgart in 2021 for a fee of €15 million, on the back of excellent campaign.

And, he has also been in fine form at Signal Iduna Park, since making the move.

Indeed, his play in the 2022-23 season attracted interest from Chelsea, who needed a replacement for Edouard Mendy.

However, the Switzerland international decided to stay at Dortmund and has now committed his long-term future to the club.

As such, his expected transfer value could now be as high as €32.8m, according to FootballTransfers' algorithm - twice as much as what the Black and Yellows paid for him just over two years ago.

Do Chelsea need a goalkeeper?

Instead of Kobel, Chelsea signed Robert Sanchez as a replacement for Mendy, who left the west London club for Saudi Arabia.

Sanchez has kept the joint-most clean sheets in the Premier League this season (3), but he has not looked totally convincing.

In the Blues' 1-0 Carabao Cup win over Brighton, the former Seagull's distribution was appalling and almost cost his team a goal on multiple occasions.

While he has made a decent start to life at Stamford Bridge, on the whole, he is unlikely to be the keeper that helps them return to regularly lifting trophies.

Meanwhile, Chelsea also brought in Djordje Petrovic from New England Revolution in the summer, with Kepa Arrizabalaga heading to Real Madrid on loan.

Petrovic was highly rated in the MLS but he has not made his debut in England and could really benefit from a loan move.
