Former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf believes that Ousmane Dembele’s consistency has prevented him from reaching the very elite level.

Dembele, 26, left Barcelona to join Paris Saint-Germain for €50 million this summer after a mostly disappointing five years at Camp Nou following his move from Borussia Dortmund.

Injury problems plagued Dembele’s spell in Spain and he never managed to live up to the potential he showed at Dortmund.

His start to life at PSG has been tricky and Dembele is still yet to score his first goal for the club. He did provide an assist against Marseille on 24 September, but that remains his only goal contribution since moving to the Parc des Princes.

The Parisians face Newcastle United in the second round of matches in the 2023-24 Champions League group stages and ahead of the game, Leboeuf was asked about Dembele in an interview with Casinos EnLigne.

“When Ousmane Dembele is in a good mood, he's unplayable,” he said. “He doesn't even know what his best foot is and, when he runs, there's no catching him. He could play for anyone, but his biggest issue is consistency. You don't know what you're going to get from him.

“The best players, like Messi, Ronaldo, Mbappe, Lewandowski, and Haaland are all consistent and score goals. Dembele could play for Arsenal or Tottenham, but there'll always be question marks over him.”

Dembele to Arsenal or Tottenham?

Leboeuf’s comments come after Dembele was sensationally linked with a loan move to both Arsenal and Tottenham following his start to life at PSG.

In late September, The Mirror reported that Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham United are all tracking Dembele ahead of the January transfer window, despite his summer move to PSG.

The France international has a contract at the Parc des Princes until 2028 and The Mirror have reported that despite Premier League interest, PSG are unlikely to sell Dembele so soon after he joined.
