Five January wingers Man Utd could target amidst Antony and Sancho mess

Manchester United could be forced into the January transfer market to sign a new right winger, amidst the mess surrounding Antony and Jadon Sancho.

First-choice right winger Antony will not return to Man Utd “until further notice” amidst allegations of domestic abuse and assault.

It remains to see how the situation with the Brazilian plays out over the coming weeks and months but Antony’s long-term Man Utd future is very much in jeopardy currently.

Sancho’s future is also in the balance after a very public row with his manager Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag left Sancho out of his 18-man squad for the Premier League match against Arsenal a few weeks ago.

When asked after the 3-1 defeat about why the Englishman was not picked, Ten Hag said: “Jadon wasn’t picked [today] on his performance in training. You have to reach the level every day at Manchester United. That’s why in this game he wasn't selected.”

This prompted an angry reaction from Sancho immediately after on social media as he denied Ten Hag’s accusations.

It is now reported that Sancho could be sold in January as his relationship with Ten Hag is broken.

With Mason Greenwood’s career at Man Utd also being declared over, the Red Devils are very short of options on the right wing.

Serge Gnabry has been heavily linked with Man Utd over the past few days. Fichajes.net reports that United could make a move for the Bayern Munich wideman in January.

A former Arsenal player, Gnabry would cost United €60 million.

A second possible option for United in January is Athletic Club star Nico Williams.

The 21-year-old has a contract that expires in June 2024, potentially making him a viable January target if he does not sign a new deal.

A third option is Federico Chiesa of Juventus. The Italian has returned to form this season after recovering from his ACL tear last year.

It seems unlikely Juventus would sanction a sale in January but United could test their resolve with a big money bid.

United could decide to sign no one and instead move a current player onto the right wing.

The Daily Express reports that Bruno Fernandes, who has unsuccessfully played on the right before, could be tried out in the role again.

Mason Mount could also be utilised in the role. Given the early season difficulties in fitting Bruno and Mount into the same team, this decision could help to solve two problems at once.
