Chelsea: Priority striker target emerges for Pochettino in three-man shortlist

Chelsea are looking to bolster their striking department in January and they have reportedly lined up three possible names, according to reports.

Emerging targets include Ivan Toney, Ollie Watkins, and Benjamin Sesko, as per GiveMeSport. This is despite the club bringing Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal and Christopher Nkunku in the summer window. Mauricio Pochettino now wants another attacker to come to Stamford Bridge in the January window, as the club look to achieve a Champions League spot this season.

It is thought that Brentford’s Toney is the priority target, though the club expect to face a lot of competition for his signature.

The forward netted 32 goals in 68 matches for the club in the Premier League before being banned for gambling charges. Toney is not available until January.

FootballTranfers also reported on Manchester United’s interest in the former Newcastle player. Watkins, meanwhile, found the back of the net 15 times in 37 Premier League matches last term and is also of interest to Chelsea.

Sesko is another player that Chelsea are monitoring for the winter window, but this could be complicated by the fact that the attacker only just joined Leipzig from RB Salzburg in the summer.

It comes after the story that Chelsea are monitoring Norwegian wonderkid Antonio Nusa, who has been likened to Kylian Mbappe.

The Blues had a £23 million Deadline Day bid rejected by Club Brugge and didn't up their offer as a result of failing to sell Conor Gallagher and Ian Maatsen.

But the Evening Standard are reporting that Chelsea are still firmly interested in signing the winger, compared to Mbappe. Performances like that are the reason Nusa is wanted by several clubs across Europe, including the west London club.
