Manchester United have reportedly identified five left-backs they could sign following the recent injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

Shaw, 28, suffered a muscular injury last week and Erik ten Hag selected Diogo Dalot as Man Utd’s left-back in the comeback 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka on the other flank.

It remains to be seen how long both Shaw and Malacia are ruled out for, but reports suggest that Man Utd are keen on signing a new defender who specialises in playing at left-back rather than use Dalot or academy star Alvaro Fernandez until Shaw or Malacia return.

Man Utd’s left-back targets

The Telegraph have reported that Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella, Barcelona’s Marcos Alonso and Tottenham Hotspur's Sergio Reguilon are on Man Utd’s wish list before Deadline Day on 1 September.

The Red Devils’ interest in Cucurella was first reported by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, with a possible loan move being touted.

The Spaniard has not played a single minute of action so far this season, with Mauricio Pochettino preferring a left-flank duo of Levi Colwill and Ben Chilwell at Stamford Bridge.

Furthermore, Ten Hag’s side have also enquired about Croatia international Ivan Perisic, as exclusively revealed by FootballTransfers.

Man Utd have contacted Perisic’s agent, but saw their approach turned down by the Spurs veteran. Ange Postecoglou’s move to a back four system has seen Perisic out of favour in north London, but he will not be making a move to Old Trafford this summer.

In addition to this, former Chelsea, Southampton and Leicester City defender Ryan Bertrand has also been linked with a move to Man Utd on a short-term deal.

The Englishman has been a free agent since leaving Leicester at the start of the summer, and is reportedly seen as a cheap option that could plug the hole left by the injuries to Shaw and Malacia.
