Manchester United have enquired about the possibility of signing Olympique Lyonnais defender Nicolas Tagliafico, according to reports, as they continue to search for a Luke Shaw replacement.

Shaw, 28, is set to be sidelined for several months after suffering a serious muscular injury and is accompanied on the treatment table by Man Utd’s other senior left-back, Tyrell Malacia.

As a result, they have dipped into the transfer market in search of a short-term fix. Tottenham’s Ivan Perisic rejected a loan offer from the Red Devils - as exclusively reported by FootballTransfers - while talk of Ryan Bertrand joining the club has cooled in recent days.

Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella, Tottenham’s Sergio Reguilon and Barcelona’s Marcos Alonso are now the three front-runners, but the latter has already revealed that he does not want to join Man Utd.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that talks with Cucurella have continued as the Spaniard eyes a possible Chelsea exit after just 12 months at the club. He is yet to feature in the 2023-24 campaign, with Mauricio Pochettino favouring a left-flank duo of Levi Colwill and vice captain Ben Chilwell.

Furthermore, Romano has also revealed that United have called Lyon to ask about the conditions of a possible move for Tagliafico, who played under Ten Hag at Ajax.

The Argentine was linked with a Premier League move during his time in the Netherlands, most heavily with Chelsea before they signed Chilwell, but he ended up joining Lyon last summer.

The 30-year-old’s deal at the Ligue 1 club runs until 2025, but Man Utd are interested in signing Tagliafico according to Romano.

ANOTHER Eredivisie signing?

Since taking over at Man Utd, Ten Hag has signed three of his former Ajax stars (Lisandro Martinez, Antony and Andre Onana), while he also bought Malacia from the Eredivisie during his first transfer window at Old Trafford.

The theme doesn’t stop there as Mason Mount spent time in the Eredivisie on loan at Vitesse from Chelsea, where he earned plaudits from his current manager, and Christian Eriksen made his name at Ajax.

In addition, main summer target Sofyan Amrabat was coached by Ten Hag at FC Utrecht before he joined Feyenoord. Man Utd fans have even pointed out online that Ten Hag worked with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg at Bayern Munich B following reported interest in the Tottenham midfielder.
