PSG have joined the race to sign Celta Vigo starlet Gabri Veiga, who is a target for Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City.

After a breakout campaign for the La Liga outfit in 2022/23, Veiga is hot property, with Barcelona also among those chasing the 21-year-old midfielder.

But all four clubs could miss out if PSG get their way – and the Ligue 1 champions appear determined to secure the services of the Spain U21 international, who has emerged as one of the most exciting young players in Europe.

According to the Guardian, PSG are ‘intensifying’ their pursuit of Veiga as they look to bolster their midfield ranks.

Veiga – who made his Celta debut back in 2019 at the age of 17 – is said to have a release clause worth €40m (£34.4m).

Such a fee would constitute pocket change to PSG, relative speaking: the Parisian giants have previously completed the two most expensive transfers of all time, signing Neymar from Barcelona for €222m and Kylian Mbappe from Monaco for €180m.

A true goal threat

Having made a handful of appearances in each of the previous two seasons, Veiga firmly established himself in the Celta first team last term, featuring in 36 of the club’s 38 league games – and 39 times in all competitions.

A true goal threat from midfield, Veiga found the net 11 times over the course of 2022/23 – all in La Liga – a feat made all the more impressive by the fact not one of those goals came from the penalty spot.

He was named La Liga’s Player of the Month for February – during which he bagged two braces in the space of four matches.
