Manchester United have been given a surprising boost in their striker search.

Erik ten Hag has reiterated time and time again that Manchester United need to spend in the summer and that they must bring in a new striker to lead the line next season. Tottenham star Harry Kane has emerged as the Red Devils' number-one target, but the feeling at Old Trafford is that it will be nigh on impossible to prise him away from north London, as we exclusively reported earlier today.

EXCLUSIVE: Harry Kane WANTS Man Utd transfer

This means that they may have to look elsewhere for that proper number nine they are crying out for. Napoli sharpshooter Victor Osimhen, Benfica's Goncalo Ramos and Eintracht Frankfurt's Randal Kolo Muani have all been linked with the Manchester club, but all of them would at least match and potentially exceed the fee required for Kane.

Due to the ongoing uncertainty over the ownership situation, Manchester United will have to raise their transfer funds from player sales in the short term. While getting the €100 million (and more) they need is not considered impossible, it could be hard to achieve, so they may have to look at cheaper options for now - and they have just been given a huge boost with regard to one of them.

Hojlund on the market

According to the Athletic, the "next Haaland," Atalanta's Rasmus Hojlund, could be on the market this summer. Long linked with United, Hojlund broke onto the scene in 2022/23, though he eventually tailed off a bit with his manager claiming that the 20-year-old had his head turned by the interest.

Indeed, Hojlund has previously revealed that moving to United would be a dream come true, and his dream could become reality this summer.

The report from the Athletic goes on to state that Atalanta are open to entertaining offers of at least €46m for their striker, making him a viable though less complete alternative to the names mentioned above.
