Manchester United are reported to be absolutely furious at Chelsea for their conduct during negotiations for Mason Mount.

The two clubs have been in talks for several weeks now in an attempt to take Mount to Old Trafford.

United have had three official bids rejected by Chelsea, who have made it clear that they will not sell for a penny less than £65 million.

The process has frustrated Chelsea who, according to the Manchester Evening NEws, are suspected by United of leaking details of the talks to a number of transfer journalists based in London.

These leaks have infuriated United, who already are unhappy at Chelsea as they believe they are overvaluing a player whose contract expires in a year.

This annoyance has not helped with negotiations and there are multiple reports this weekend that United may even walk away and look at other targets like Brighton’s Moises Caicedo - coincidentally a target of Chelsea, also.

Mount has long since agreed personal terms with Man Utd, so only a transfer fee has been required to be agreed to complete a transfer.

Liverpool were also interested but Mount made it clear he preferred a move to Man Utd.

Mount to leave Chelsea

Mount’s contract at Chelsea expires at the end of next season and talks over a renewal have made no headway for over a year.

It now seems increasingly likely that Mount will leave Chelsea this summer.

It is widely understood that Chelsea will sell Mount before the end of the transfer window if a new contract isn’t signed, to avoid losing him on a free transfer in 2024.

Mount has been a key player for Chelsea in recent seasons but, like most of his teammates, endured a miserable 2022-23 campaign.

He managed just three goals and four assists in all competitions as Chelsea finished 12th.
