Manchester United are the most successful club in the Premier League era, but the Red Devils have not won the top flight since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.

The Scotsman is arguably the greatest manager in football history and his departure from Old Trafford has left a gigantic hole at the club.

Erik ten Hag’s appointment in 2022 brought silverware back to the red side of Manchester as they won the 2023 Carling Cup but Man Utd's fortunes continue to be bleak as they have fallen well short of challenging for the major honours of Premier League and Champions League.

Perhaps surprisingly, as of March 2024, Ten Hag actually possesses the best win percentage of any Man Utd manager in history. The Dutchman holds a 60.78% win rate, which tops Ferguson’s 59.7%.

The likes of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, David Moyes and Louis van Gaal all bettered Sir Matt Busby’s win percentage during their respective time as Man Utd manager.

Who is the current Man Utd manager?

Erik ten Hag is the current Man Utd manager. The Dutchman left Ajax in 2022 in order to take over at Old Trafford following Ralf Rangnick’s unsuccessful spell as interim boss.

Ten Hag had three stints at FC Twente as a player before retiring aged 32. His first managerial role came at Go Ahead Eagles in 2012. He was appointed as Ajax head coach in 2017 and after an eye-catching spell in the Dutch capital, he joined Man Utd in 2022.

His first season was promising as he won the League Cup, finished runners-up in the FA Cup and qualified for the Champions League.

His second season has been disappointing as United look set to miss out on Champions League qualification, and were knocked out of the Champions League groups stages.
