Fabrizio Romano has announced that Arsenal centre-back William Saliba will sign a new contract with the Gunners after a long period of discussion, with the transfer specialist giving the deal his famous “here we go” seal of approval.

Saliba joined Arsenal from Saint-Etienne in 2019 but did not make his debut for the Gunners until the beginning of the 2022/23 season. The 22-year-old quickly became a mainstay of the team that challenged for the Premier League title, with the team’s defensive record collapsing late in the season while he was out injured.

It has, therefore, been a priority for Mikel Arteta’s side to extend the centre-back’s contract, which presently expires in 2024.

REVEALED: The Chelsea player Arsenal REALLY wanted

FootballTransfers understands that discussions, which have been running for weeks, were held up by minor details over the clauses in the deal and not by wage demands on the player’s part.

Romano has revealed that the issues have been resolved, with Saliba to complete the formalities imminently.

Taking to Twitter, transfer market specialist Romano said: “Documents approved, details fixed — William Saliba will sign new long-term deal at Arsenal as expected after final talks revealed last weekend, here we go.

“Understand Saliba will put pen to paper when he returns from holidays. New deal: June 2027 with option 2028.”

Arsenal's renewals continue

Arsenal are in the process of renewing deals for many of their brightest young players, with Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli among those who have recently penned extensions to their contracts.

With Saliba’s future now secured, it will allow Mikel Areta and his backroom team to turn their attention towards Martin Odegaard’s future as well as adding to their squad. FootballTransfers exclusively revealed in March they are seeking to tie him to a deal until 2030.

Arsenal are closing in on a transfer for Declan Rice, but still have to agree a fee for the 24-year-old England midfielder with Premier League rivals West Ham.
