Manchester United have concerns over Harry Maguire’s tendency to rush into challenges as rumours of his departure in the summer take hold.

FootballTransfers reported last year that the club captain, along with the likes of Scott McTominay, Anthony Martial, and Donny van de Beek, among others, have been earmarked to leave the club. Now further reports have affirmed the story.

ESPN have reported that coaches at Old Trafford really like Maguire’s ability on the ball but have concerns over what they perceive to be a ‘lack of mobility.’

Erik ten Hag has used Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez as the main centre-back pairing, with Maguire, left on the sidelines.

In fact, even defender Luke Shaw has been used as a make-do central defender over Maguire at times.

Everything at the moment points to the exit.

Where will Maguire end up?

Reports have linked West Ham, but their future isn’t clear. Maguire is contracted until 2025 and will ask for competitive wages. Man Utd do have the option of another year but it’s unlikely that they activating that.

It’s very possible that a new club will make themselves over the summer - but so far the links have been tentative.

It will all depend on how much the club will ask for Maguire ahead of the window opening.

Anything above £40m and Man Utd will struggle to find suitors for the England international.

Maguire has been linked to Italy as well, but he will have ambitions of fighting for his spot for the national side ahead of Euro 2024 - and remaining in England will be his best opportunity for that.

The club need to boost their transfer kitty by selling players and there is still thought to be eyes on Ajax's Jurrien Timber, who the club liked last year. Either way, Maguire will want to be playing football, and it’s not looking that way under Ten Hag.
