It’s no secret that manager Erik ten Hag would prefer a goalkeeper who is more commanding with the ball at his feet and more commanding of his area, and that has led to speculation about De Gea’s future at Old Trafford.

Now, it’s emerged that there could be a way out for De Gea, and Manchester United may see this as a possibility to get a new goalkeeper in for themselves.

La Liga move a possibility

According to Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo, there is interest in De Gea from La Liga’s Andalusian rivals Sevilla and Real Betis, who are keeping tabs on the goalkeeper’s situation at Manchester United.

Sevilla are content with goalkeeper Yassine Bounou but his impressive form is garnering the attention of other clubs and he may be on the move soon.

Betis, meanwhile, have the likes of Rui Silva and Claudio Bravo on their squad but manager Manuel Pellegrini may be looking to improve on that and get better in the long run.

De Gea only has a year left on his contract at Manchester United, but the club have the option to extend for a further year if they wish to, and there is still no clarity on whether they will.

Ten Hag is keen to change the culture at the club and only sanction new deals for players depending on their performances rather than have underperforming players in his squad.

They have been keeping an eye on goalkeepers for the future, with Porto’s Diogo Costa and Milan’s Mike Maignan linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks.
