David de Gea has spoken of his desire to sign a new contract at the club, having recently made his 500th appearance for them over the weekend.

The Spaniard has been at the club since 2011, and is the only member in the squad to have stayed on from Alex Ferguson’s reign, which ended nine years ago.

De Gea has been criticized in recent times for his limited capabilities with the ball at his feet and there have been calls to replace him in the coming years.

However, he’s adamant on wanting to keep his place in the side and feels he can contribute to great things in the future for the club.

De Gea speaks on Man Utd future

De Gea said: “This is my club and where I feel good. I’m playing well and I feel very well. I have many more years to play. Yes, I would like to stay here more years and make records for games and everything.

“I’d like to try to help the young people here as well with my experience and try to win trophies. I feel very confident,” he continued.

He later spoke about what it’s like to have played 500 games for the club: “It is crazy. “Five hundred games is never easy at a big club like Manchester United.

“I’m really proud. Nobody expects to play that many years and that many games. It’s unbelievable and I consider it a privilege,” the Spaniard later added.

Recent fixtures have shown De Gea is willing to improve, as evident by his desire to sweep up the pitch and help Manchester United’s high line.

All of Erik ten Hag’s teams in the past have played with a goalkeeper good with their feet, and that has led to links for goalkeepers such as Porto’s Diogo Costa and Milan’s Mike Maignan.
