Benjamin Sesko in action for Red Bull Salzburg

Benjamin Sesko agreed a deal to swap Red Bull Salzburg for RB Leipzig at the start of next season, and he is set to play for the German club in the 2023-24 campaign.

Sesko was linked to a host of clubs in the summer transfer window such as Manchester United and Chelsea, but they were priced out a move for the Slovenian forward.

He ended up agreeing to a deal to move to Leipzig for a fee of €24 million, well below what Salzburg were asking of other clubs in the transfer window, raising further questions about the relationship between the two clubs.

Now, though, there is hope of a transfer for other clubs, and it may happen even before Sesko has kicked a ball for Leipzig, as they may make a move for him in the summer.

Sesko could leave Leipzig next summer

Manchester United were the main contenders for his signature in the summer, and the club were impressed with the form he showed towards the end of last season.

Erik ten Hag has needed a forward at the club for a while, with Marcus Rashford currently leading the line, as Anthony Martial often struggles for fitness and Cristiano Ronaldo has been told he can leave in January.

Chelsea were also showing interest late on and were willing to spend big to bring the youngster over to Stamford Bridge, but a move never materialized as he moved to Leipzig instead.

Chelsea signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on the final day of the transfer window, but have made it clear they want a more youth-centred approach to transfers in the future.

Sesko is one of the brightest attacking prospects anywhere in European football, and he won’t come in cheap if any club decides to buy him next summer, this time from RB Leipzig.

He will cost around €60 million according to reports, a steep fee for a player who has only recently burst onto the scene and is still very young.
