Two important conditions have been imposed on Cristiano Ronaldo if he is to secure his much-desired transfer away from Manchester United in January.

The first condition, according to The Athletic, has been imposed by Man Utd, who are happy to release Ronaldo on a free transfer but are refusing to pay out the final six months of his contract.

Ronaldo’s current deal expires at the end of the season, but the Portuguese will have to forego his remaining wages if he wants to be released in January.

The second condition, according to The Athletic, is that Ronaldo will have to accept a pay cut at his new club.

Ronaldo currently earns £25 million a year at Man Utd and no club is prepared to even get close to that figure.

Ronaldo wants out at Man Utd

Ronaldo is desperate to leave Man Utd, having initially issued a transfer request this past summer at the start of July.

The 37-year-old cited his desire to join a club that is in the Champions League and could challenge for major trophies.

His agent Jorge Mendes offered him out to numerous clubs around Europe, including Chelsea, PSG, Napoli, Roma, Bayern and Atletico Madrid without finding a taker.

Finding a club prepared to make a concrete offer in January could prove to be just as difficult a task.

It doesn’t help that Ronaldo has only scored two goals in 2022-23, a penalty in the Europa League against Sheriff and just one goal in the Premier League.

He has mainly featured as a substitute for Man Utd, and he caused controversy recently by refusing to come on as a sub and storming down the tunnel with five minutes remaining against Tottenham.
