The Portuguese superstar made a rare start in the league clash at Old Trafford and was hoping to inspire his side to victory.

Despite having a goal disallowed, it was another relatively quiet afternoon for Ronaldo, who together with the rest of his teammates failed to threaten the Newcastle backline much.

In a bid to win the game, Erik ten Hag brought on Marcus Rashford with 18 minutes to go. However, the man he took off was Ronaldo.

The 37-year-old did not take the decision well at all.

He threw his arms into the air and shook his head continuously as he stormed off the pitch.

He ignored Ten Hag as he walked past the touchline and continued to shake his head as he took his seat on the bench.

He took a swig of water before spitting it onto the floor. Whenever the camera turned to Ronaldo for the rest of the game, the attacker could be seen slouched with his hand on his chin looking far from happy at all.

The game finished 0-0, with United not creating much at all after Ronaldo went off. Their best chance came in the 88th minute when Rashford rounded the goalkeeper and squared to Fred, who shot wide. Rashford also headed wide in injury time.

Will Ronaldo leave in January?

Ronaldo’s actions on Sunday will raise more questions about his future at the club ahead of the January transfer window.

The former Juventus star issued a transfer request back in July, demanding to join a Champions League club who could challenge for major trophies.

Despite his agent Jorge Mendes offering him around to numerous clubs around Europe, Ronaldo did not receive a concrete offer.

He will certainly be offered around again in January, and will likely leave if he finds a suitable suitor.

Ronaldo has scored just two goals in all competitions this season, and has mainly been used as a substitute in the Premier League.
