Surprise Serie A outfit Udinese have jokingly called for Cristiano Ronaldo to join their club.

The Italian minnows have been one of the sensations of the Serie A season thus far as they currently sit in third place, just one point behind joint-leaders Napoli and Atalanta.

Udinese have won five games in a row, taking the scalp of Inter 3-1 on Saturday and also thrashing Jose Mourinho’s Roma 4-0.

What did Udinese post?

And now Udinese are using their newfound status to try and entice Ronaldo to the club!

Udinese goalkeeper jokingly replied to an Instagram post about Ronaldo from the league’s official broadcasters with the comment: “@cristiano come to @udinesecalcio”.

This comment was then followed up by Udinese’s official Instagram account, which replied with the open eyes emoji.

A January transfer to Udinese certainly seems unlikely as Ronaldo’s annual salary is more than the Italian club’s entire squad.

Ronaldo is keen to leave Man Utd, though, having issued a transfer request this summer.

Cristiano cited his desire to join a club that is in the Champions League and could challenge for major trophies, clearly not something Udinese can offer.

Ronaldo chose not to go on tour with Man Utd during the summer, for family reasons.

He did not begin training again until the last week of pre-season, playing just one friendly match against Rayo Vallecano – a game he caused controversy in by returning home while the match was still ongoing.

His agent Jorge Mendes offered him out to numerous clubs around Europe, including Italian clubs Milan, Napoli and Roma.

Ronaldo, of course, spent three years in Serie A with Juventus from 2018 to 2021, scoring 101 goals and winning two Scudetti.

His last game for Juventus was against Udinese before joining Man Utd in the last days of the 2021 summer transfer window.
