What did Ronaldo say about retiring?

"I hope to continue being part of the Portuguese international setup for a few more years,” Ronaldo stated.

“I feel motivated, my ambition is high.

“I am in a team with young people, I want to be in the World Cup but also in the next European Championships."

Ronaldo is set to captain his nation at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which kicks off in November.

The 37-year-old will feature in his tenth major international tournament of his career, with his first being way back at Euro 2004 on home soil as a teenager.

Cristiano since went on to become one of the greatest players in history and the highest international scorer of all time with 117 goals in 189 games.

This week Ronaldo was rewarded for being the top international scorer at the Quinas de Oura in his home nation. He was presented with a special award.

"I am proud to receive an award of such magnitude,” he said.

“I never thought I could achieve it. It has been a long road but I would like to say that my journey is not over yet. There is still a little more of Cristiano left."

Some had questioned whether Ronaldo would retire from international football – or even football altogether – after the World Cup is over.

The attacker has lost his place in the Manchester United starting XI and has featured mostly from the bench in the Premier League this season.

He has scored just one goal in all competitions and he issued a transfer request this past summer. He is likely to look for another club again when the January transfer window opens.
