The Premier League is back and excitement is rising over a new season of fresh faces, storylines and, perhaps most importantly – goals.

After Mo Salah and Son Hueng-Min scored 23 goals each last season to share the Golden Boot, the competition for this year’s award has increased following the arrivals of some of football’s most elite strikers.

The pick of the bunch is arguably Erling Haaland as the new Manchester City signing is coming off the back of 62 goals in 67 games for Dortmund in the Bundesliga.

With Liverpool also splashing the cash on Darwin Nunez and Arsenal bringing in Gabriel Jesus from City to lead their line, there are a host of new contenders vying for the award.

But the likes of Salah, Son and Harry Kane will not relinquish their domination of the award that easily, meaning we are likely set for an entertaining fight and a flurry of goals.

Take a look back at last season's Golden Boot race on FootballCritic.

Who are the favourites for the 2022/23 Premier League Golden Boot?

Haaland is the bookies’ favourite to finish top scorer in the Premier League this season, with the £51 million signing boasting odds of 11/4 in an unsurprising show of confidence to the attacking prowess champions City are likely to show.

After sharing the award last season, Salah is the next favourite with 9/2 odds while Son is 13/1 in comparison, despite scoring more goals from open play than the Egyptian.

Kane has odds of 6/1 to secure his fourth Golden Boot award, with the England captain hoping to net more than the 17 goals he scored last season – the joint-lowest he’s ever scored since breaking into the Tottenham first team.

Jesus and Nunez round off the top five, both with odds around 12/1, suggesting the duo may grab goals for their new sides but may not disrupt the top three favourites.

Son’s odds are similar to that of Cristiano Ronaldo, who is rated around 14/1 to win the Golden Boot despite the Manchester United forward hoping to be playing elsewhere by the end of the transfer window.

Outsiders include Chelsea duo Kai Havertz and Raheem Sterling as well as Leicester’s Jamie Vardy but it appears likely that it will be a three-horse race between Haaland, Salah and Kane.
