Manchester United are gearing up for a second raid on Real Madrid this summer.

Blancos favourite Casemiro has already completed a move to Old Trafford and has been cleared to make his debut on Saturday against Southampton after receiving a United Kingdom work permit.

The arrival of the Brazil international has contributed to a drastic shift in mood around United, with a solid victory over Liverpool on Monday also doing much to erradicate the gloom which had settled following two consecutive Premier League defeats to kick off the 2022-23 season.

United's business this window, though, appears to be far from over, with several stated targets still linked with the club in the final week of the window.

Among them is Marco Asensio, whose future at Madrid remains uncertain.

According to Spanish outlet Relevo, United have decided to make a €30 million bid for the Spain winger's services.

The prospective transfer, however, may prove to be anything but easy, as Asensio has also attracted attention from other clubs in the Premier League as well as Serie A, with Arsenal and Liverpool mentioned as possible destinations.

His position at the Bernabeu, meanwhile, is anything but clear.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti is keen to retain Asensio's services, having received a strong return from the player as a utility man last term.

In 2021-22 Asensio managed a decent 12 goals in 42 games, of which a mere 21 were starts.

Reports in Spain, though, point to serious problems between the player and club president Florentino Perez, who allegedly has instructed Ancelotti not to give Asensio time on the pitch after he refused to sign a new contract.

The 26-year-old has played seven minutes so far in the current campaign, a short cameo off the bench in Madrid's 4-1 victory over Celta at the weekend which gave the defending European and Spanish champions their second consecutive win to begin the season.
