David Raum is making transfer news once again, with Dortmund and Manchester United battling over the Hoffenheim left-back.

The 24-year-old defender completed a move to the Bundesliga side last summer when he departed Greuther Furth on a free transfer.

After an impressive campaign, though, he could be on the move after just a single season at the Rhein-Neckar-Arena.

Sky Deutschland reports that the transfer battle to sign Raum is likely to be an intense one. There are between five and eight clubs seriously interested in the Germany international, including Manchester United and Dortmund.

It is Dortmund, however, who hold the upper hand presently, it is stated. This is because the player’s representatives are keenest to do business with them, perhaps feeling that this is an important intermediate stage for a footballer who has little exposure to the top level at this point in his career.

How much will Raum cost?

Given the intensity of the interest surrounding the defender, it is little surprise that Raum is likely to go for a fee significantly above his FootballTransfers valuation of €18m.

It is expected that Hoffenheim would accept an offer in the region of €30-35m.

There is no release clause in his current contract, which expires in 2026, giving Hoffenheim plenty of opportunity to hike his price up. Furthermore, his upward trajectory will be exciting for teams following him. As of January 2021, FootballTransfers estimated that he was worth just €700,000 – and his rise since them has been exponential and shows no signs of slowing down.

Last season, he posted an incredible return of three goals and 13 assists from the left side of the pitch for Hoffenheim, where he played either as a left back or on the left side of midfield.

Manchester United and Dortmund are clearly both hoping that Raum could replicate those figures in their sides next season and are willing to back that up with big money.
