Austrian midfielder Konrad Laimer has provided an update on his future as a potential exit from RB Leipzig draws closer.

Laimer, 25, joined Leipzig from their sister team RB Salzburg in 2017 after coming through the Austrian side's youth academy.

He has been a fixture in Leipzig's midfielder since then and racked up 42 appearances in the 2021/22 season, chipping in with five goals and six assists in all competitions.

His form since joining the Bundesliga has been impressive and with one year left on his contract, it seems as though Leipzig will cash in this summer.

The Austrian international, who has 20 international caps, has garnered attention from across Europe, but Bayern Munich seem to be in pole position to sign him and have already submitted an opening bid of around €18/20m according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Bavarian giants have made a habit of snatching the Bundesliga's best talents recently and this policy has seen them assert utter dominance in the division.

However, Erik ten Hag is reportedly a fan and Manchester United remain interested in the player, according to SportBILD. Kicker have also reported that Liverpool are keeping an eye on the player as Jurgen Klopp looks for midfielder reinforcements.

Liverpool have prioritised an attempt to sign Aurelien Tchouameni which could stump their slight pursuit of Laimer, although the Frenchman has reportedly chosen to join Real Madrid.

What has Laimer said?

With interest in him picking up, Laimer has provided an update on where he will be playing next season.

He told TZ Muenchen on Austria duty: "It's quite possible that I won't play in Leipzig next season."

While Laimer hasn't confirmed which club he could join this summer, it appears more apparent that he will leave Leipzig before next campaign begins.

TZ Muenchen have also reported they expect Laimer to join Bayern, with Julain Nagelsmann keen to be reunited with the player after spending time together at Leipzig.
