The priority for Liverpool in this summer’s transfer window was to tie down their current players to long-term deals, rather than bringing in many new signings. Alisson, Fabinho, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson all penned new deals over the summer months and now Mohamed Salah could be the next one.

The Egyptian has two years remaining on his current deal, which will expire in the summer of 2023, but Jamie Carragher is convinced that the 29-year-old will put pen to paper on a new deal before long.

"It’s not just about Jordan Henderson, it’s about the group of players who have signed long-term contracts,” Carragher told Sky Sports when discussing the recent renewal of the Liverpool captain.

"I think Liverpool have some of the best players in the world, in terms of Alisson signing a six-year deal and Virgil van Djik. I think Mohamed Salah will be the next one, in the next few months, if they can get that done.

"In years gone by, certainly when I was at the club, if we had players of that quality, they would be going to Real Madrid or Barcelona.

"I think the money and expenditure this pre-season was going to be on renewing contracts and making sure that players stay for the rest of their careers at Liverpool. Jordan’s the next one and Trent, Andy Robertson and Fabinho also. And, as I say, I expect Salah.”

Salah’s last Liverpool contract renewal

Salah has already signed a new contract at Anfield once before. After arriving from Roma in 2017, he agreed a five-year contract in the summer of 2018, following his incredible debut season.

Now, that deal is nearing its expiry date, so Salah is already negotiating with the club over a next contract. There have been rumours that Salah wants to more than double his wages with the new deal, something Liverpool wouldn’t be prepared to do, but the club are willing to offer a significant pay rise and a deal could be completed over the coming months.
