The 10 France footballers with the highest price tag
Kylian Mbappe is the most highly-valued French player in world football, but what other France players feature in the top 10?
FootballTransfers' transfer valuations are calculated in collaboration with SciSports, a world-leading football analytics agency that assesses the relative transfer valuations of over 60,000 professional footballers worldwide. SciSports use multiple data points including current and potential ability, contract length, form, age, and other crucial factors.
Even at 22 years old, Mbappe is already one of the best and most devastating forwards in world football.
At the moment, he is plying his trade in France with Paris Saint-Germain and is the second most expensive player of all time following his €145m transfer from Monaco which was made permanent in 2018.
He currently has a FootballTransfers market value of €159.5m which makes him by far the most valuable Frenchman. And, rest assured, that value would be even higher if not for the fact he is out of contract with PSG in 12 months time.
The second most valuable Frenchman is Sevilla's Jules Kounde, who comes in at €72m. The central defender has emerged as one of the most promising young defenders around over the last couple of years, and could be on his way to Chelsea this summer.
Manchester United's soon-to-be new boy Raphael Varane is in third, valued at €66.5m. He is set to complete a transfer to Old Trafford from Real Madrid for a reported fee of around €49m, so the Red Devils are getting a good deal there.
The fourth most valuable Frenchman is Kingsley Coman. The Bayern Munich winger has proved a lot of doubters wrong recently as, following on from his Champions League-winning goal in the final against PSG a year ago, he has kept on performing to keep big-money signing Leroy Sane out of the team at the Allianz Arena.
|1. Kylian Mbappe||PSG||€159.5m|
|2. Jules Kounde||Sevilla||€72m|
|3. Raphael Varane||Man Utd||€66.5m|
|4. Kingsley Coman||Bayern||€63.3m|
|5. Anthony Martial||Man Utd||€60m|
|6. Antoine Griezmann||Barcelona||€56.4m|
|7. Dayot Upamecano||Bayern||€54.8m|
|8. Eduardo Camavinga||Rennes||€53.7m|
|9. Ferland Mendy||Real Madrid||€52.8m|
|10. Paul Pogba||Man Utd||€46.2m|
He has been linked with a move to the Premier League, and is valued at €63.3m.
In fifth is Anthony Martial, valued at €60m. He may not be an automatic started at Man Utd anymore, but he still has relative youth on his side to reignite his career.
In sixth is Barcelona's Antoine Griezmann at €56.4m. It goes to show how perilous a financial situation the club is in that they are willing to let a player valued so highly potentially leave for free just to get him off the wage bill.
Bayern have completed one major signing this summer in the form of Dayot Upamecano, and he is the seventh-highest value Frenchman, coming in at €54.8m.
In eighth is Rennes wonderkid Eduardo Camavinga, valued at €53.7m. In a few years, expect that figure to be doubled or even trebled.
