Former Middlesbrough striker turned broadcaster Jan Aage Fjortoft has quashed any rumours linking Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland with an imminent move to Chelsea.

The Blues’ interest in Haaland has been widely reported for a while, and speculation grew over a possible move when former Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel took over at Stamford Bridge, replacing Frank Lampard.

Fellow Premier League sides Manchester United and Manchester City are believed to have identified Haaland as a top target, but Fjortoft moved quickly to pour cold water on Chelsea being the favourites for his signature.

“I understand that reports on Chelsea being closer on Haaland than other clubs are wrong,” Fjortoft wrote on Twitter earlier on Tuesday afternoon.

That will come as a bitter blow to Blues fans who were hoping to welcome the man expected to become the world’s next top striker.

Dortmund haven’t given up hope of keeping the player they signed from Red Bull Salzburg only last year.

Since exploding onto the scene with a Champions League debut hat-trick, Haaland has rarely been out of the spotlight for the right reasons.

His record at Dortmund is nothing short of remarkable. He has scored 43 goals in as many games for the club, and they will hope he has many more to come in the future.
