Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, Fabio Paratici and the Spurs board held discussions on Sunday to decide whether to dismiss Nuno and came to a conclusion on Monday morning.

Spurs are struggling in eighth position of the Premier League after being thumped 3-0 at home by Manchester United on Saturday.

Nuno was only appointed as manager of Spurs on June 30 after a chaotic search for a successor to Jose Mourinho, who was sacked in April.

Spurs held talks with a number of preferred candidates, including first-choice Antonio Conte, who rejected their offer.

Discussions were also held with Paulo Fonseca, while Rino Gattuso was set to be appointed before a supporter campaign led to a U-turn.

Eventually, Tottenham hired Nuno, who was out of work after leaving Wolves at the conclusion of the 2020/21 season.

The 47-year-old had taken over Wolves in the Championship in 2017 and guided them to promotion, with the club now being one of the established teams in the Premier League.

However, Nuno immediately faced problems in north London as Harry Kane put in a request to leave the club and join Manchester City. This was rejected by owner Levy, and Kane has cut a dejected figure this season, scoring just one Premier League goal.

What was Nuno Espirito Santo’s record at Spurs?

Despite winning their first three Premier League matches of the season, including a 1-0 victory over Man City, Spurs have struggled badly since then.

They have since lost five of their subsequent seven league matches and they have a goal difference of -7. Their overall record in the Premier League is played 10, won five, drawn 0, lost five.

Nuno has been unpopular with fans due to his perceived defensive football, with Tottenham scoring just nine league goals in 10 games.

They have also disappointed in Europe, with just one win from their three UEFA Conference League matches.

Tottenham’s next matches before the international break are against Vitesse in Europe before a trip to Goodison Park to play Everton.
