Fabrizio Romano transfer news: Isak to Liverpool UPDATE, Gyokeres LATEST, Man Utd TRUTH
Football transfer news reporter Fabrizio Romano has delivered the latest news from the 2025 summer window, with updates on Alexander Isak, Viktor Gyokeres and Emiliano Martinez.
Hugo Ekitike / Alexander Isak update
Liverpool have identified Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak as their two top striker targets and Fabrizio Romano has provided a major update on the situation.
“Today, the big update arrived early this morning. Liverpool today are advancing fast on a deal to sign Hugo Ekitike,” Romano told his YouTube channel.
“Liverpool have approached Newcastle for Alexander Isak showing their intention to present an official bid worth £120 million. At the same time Liverpool made contact for Hugo Ekitike.
“So basically what was the strategy from Liverpool? Try to get Alexander Isak, then if Newcastle are opening the doors, let's go and do Isak.
“Otherwise, go and get a player who has always been a target for Liverpool [Ekitike].
“Obviously Alexander Isak is a dream target but Newcastle are maintaining their stance of ‘not for sale’ during this summer transfer window. And so what Liverpool did was to attack for Ekitike, who was always a top target for Newcastle.
“On Monday, Newcastle had a €78m bid rejected for Ekitike. At the moment from what I'm hearing, Newcastle are out of the race to sign Ekitike because Liverpool entered and reached an agreement with the player on a six-year contract.”
Romano added: “This is the exclusive story from today because they presented a bid to Eintracht Frankfurt close to €80m. It was rejected by Eintracht as they feel there could be more clubs joining the race for Ekitike.
“But Liverpool have an agreement with the player and the player wants to go to Liverpool.
Viktor Gyokeres update
Meanwhile, Arsenal remain in talks to sign Viktor Gyokeres and the Gunners are determined to finalise a deal with Sporting CP amid an ongoing dispute over bonus payments.
“For Viktor Gyokeres, the conversation is still ongoing,” Romano revealed. “The agents of the player are still in London to try to resolve the agreement between all parties involved.
“Gyokeres is fighting to go to Arsenal, but obviously it's really important to agree on the add-ons. They are really on it - every single hour and every single minute, Arsenal and Sporting are working on this deal.
“They are still working on the add-ons in London. Arsenal are not happy with the situation with Sporting because they keep fighting on every single detail so it remains a story that we have to follow on a daily basis.
“But, for sure, Gyokeres is not changing his mind even when Sporting presented the prospect of Saudi clubs offering him crazy money. The answer from Gyokeres remains the same - he wants to go to Arsenal. His dream is Arsenal.”
Emiliano Martinez to Man Utd?
Finally, Romano admitted that Manchester United are yet to submit an official offer for Emiliano Martinez, despite heavy rumours linking them with the Argentina international.
“Manchester United have not made any bid and Aston Villa sources also guarantee that they have not received any official bid from Man Utd,” Romano said.
“Man Utd have spoken to Emiliano Martinez representatives several times to be informed about the situation of the player. But this already happened in June. It's not yesterday, today or this week. In June they had conversations about the situation of Emmy Martinez.
“What's important to say is that at the moment there is still no club-to-club negotiation, but Man Utd are aware of the situation of Martinez.
“Martinez could be open to joining Man Utd even though they don't play European football this season. I'm not aware of a concrete negotiation yet or anything close to being completed.
“Let's see if Man Utd will decide to activate this opportunity or not. But at the moment, as mentioned, the focus of Man Utd is on different things.
“The money has to go on some positions that are considered crucial like the one for Bryan Mbeumo.”
