The 22-year-old scored 15 goals in 41 games during his debut campaign at Ibrox, but he has been heavily linked with a premature exit after just one season at the club, with several teams across Europe understood to be interested in finalising a deal.

Eredivisie giants PSV Eindhoven have been tipped to pursue a summer agreement, while Lyon have now joined the race for his signature following the expiration of Endrick’s loan deal from Real Madrid.

The Ligue 1 outfit are in the market for a new centre forward to replace Endrick this summer, and they have earmarked Chermiti as a top candidate for the role, according to French publication Foot Mercato.

It’s claimed that Lyon would like to submit an initial offer of €14m for the Portugal U21 striker, with a further €4m in possible add-ons.

However, Rangers have no intention of allowing Chermiti to depart the club before the end of the 2026 summer transfer window, and they have informed Benjamin Charrier, Lyon's head of recruitment, of this stance. As a result, Lyon will be forced to revise their plans and consider an improved bid.

Calvin Bassey remains Rangers’ most expensive sale of all time, courtesy of his €23m move to Ajax in 2022, and it’s likely that a fee close to that figure will be required to tempt the Scottish giants into selling Chermiti this summer.

Rangers have been busy so far this summer

Rangers have been extremely busy so far this summer, with a number of incomings and outgoings sanctioned, while Derek McInnes has been appointed as their new head coach following the departure of Danny Rohl.

Ivor Pandur has been signed from Hull City for €7m to become their new first-choice goalkeeper, while Ross McCrorie has returned to the club for a fee of €1.3m from Bristol City. Lawrence Shankland and Dan Neil have arrived on Bosman deals from Hearts and Sunderland respectively, and Ben Godfey has completed a loan move from Atalanta.

Meanwhile, they have sold Jack Butland to Hull for €3.5m, Ben Davies has joined Bolton Wanderers on a free transfer and Bailey Rice has been sent on loan to Kilmarnock. Club legend James Tavernier has also left upon the expiration of his contract.
