Rangers boss Danny Rohl hails Rangers’ 30-goal secret weapon
Rangers manager Danny Rohl hailed the contribution of set-piece coach Scott Fry following a 2-0 win over Aberdeen at Ibrox that moved the Gers into second place in the Scottish Premiership.
Fresh from victory over Celtic in Sunday’s Old Firm clash, the Glasgow giants picked up another solid win over the managerless Dons thanks to strikes from Emmanuel Fernandez and Nicolas Raskin.
After the game, though, Rohl picked out Fry for special praise. The coach, who was only appointed in November, has overseen a dramatic turnaround in the club’s set-piece fortunes, with seven goals scored from these situations since his arrival – the best in the league.
This is a continuation of the numbers he generated at Lincoln City last season, when he masterminded 30 goals from set-pieces – the highest figure in League One.
Both strikes against Aberdeen came from these situations, from which Fernandez and Raskin have both proven to be experts at exploiting.
“It’s very important. Scott is doing a fantastic job,” Rohl set of his set-piece guru.
“We made a good choice and it’s not just about the content, he’s also a good human.
“He’s been a good addition to my coaching team and we are very happy with him.
“When the games are tight, you need this and we scored two from set-plays.
“We have worked a lot on it since Scott came in and it’s nice to see them coming off in games.”
Transfer rumour: Rangers eye Rothwell replacement
Rangers are in talks with Sturm Graz to sign Tochi Chukwuani, according to the Rangers Review.
The 22-year-old, who has previously played with Mohamed Diomande and Oliver Antman previously, was shown a red card against Celtic in the Europa League this season and also featured against the Gers earlier in the campaign.
Danny Rohl’s side have also been linked with a loan move for AEK Athens left-back James Penrice and Westerlo defender Tuur Rommens but have yet to make any new signings this January.
