Celtic fan favourite set for sensational January return
Celtic fan favourite Kyogo Furuhashi is reportedly set to complete a sensational return to the club before their clash against Dundee United on Saturday.
The Japan striker notched 85 goals in 165 games for the Hoops during a hugely successful three-and-a-half spell at the club before being sold to Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais during the January transfer window last year.
The 30-year-old struggled to adapt to life in France following his arrival and he was subsequently offloaded to Birmingham City in July. However, Kyogo has fared even worse since moving to St Andrew’s, failing to score in 23 Championship appearances so far this season.
He has only started seven league matches under Chris Davies this term, with Jay Stansfield and Marvin Ducksch ahead of him in the pecking order, and he could set to secure a dream return to Celtic Park.
That is according to a report from The Scottish Sun, who claim that Kyogo could complete a loan move back to Celtic in time to feature against Dundee this weekend.
It’s reported that Celtic chiefs have spent the last 24 hours exploring a possible deal for Kyogo, who was a fan favourite during his time at the club, as they look to provide interim boss Martin O’Neill with reinforcements in January.
Celtic chase Kyogo Furuhashi deal
O’Neill was re-appointed as caretaker manager earlier this week following the sacking of Wilfried Nancy after just 33 days in charge, and he has urged the club to back him in the transfer market this month.
Centre forward has been identified as a priority position in need of addressing, with Johnny Kenny the only fit and available option at the moment.
AS Roma loanee Evan Ferguson and Columbus Crew striker Wessam Abou Ali have both been linked with a move to Celtic Park in recent weeks, although the Bhoys appear to have set their sights on bringing Kyogo back to the club instead.
